Waste Hauler Referendum

What to Know About the Waste Hauler Referendum

If the “Yes” vote wins and the referendum passes, the Board will begin discussing services we would like for the companies to provide for all unincorporated Township residents. Once the list is made we’ll ask companies to provide a quote for them. If the “No” vote wins this question is over. The Board will not discuss or consider a contract with a single hauler.

If we are given permission to seek a single hauler some questions we can be asking companies are:

What services are offered?
Will yard waste (weeds, small sticks) be included?
Will they offer recycling?
Will large (bulk) items be picked up and if so how many each week and will there be an additional charge?
Are stickers required?
What size containers are offered and price differences?
How frequently will pick up be?
When can service begin?
Will there be a discount for seniors?
What age do they consider to be a senior?
Who determines the day of pick up (can areas pick their day of pick up)?
How long will the contract be valid for?
Monthly cost?

The Board will compile a list of wants and requirements, then review the company’s responses, discuss any issues or concerns with the company’s and decide if any of the companies offer a service that will benefit the residents and, if so, select the best service for them. If the Board finds none of the proposals benefit the Township then we can pass on having one single hauler.

Other Townships in Kane County have single hauler contracts and billing is done directly between the company and resident. Any issues in service is handled directly between the company and resident. At this point it can be assumed we would do it the same for any service we go with, if offered, but the Board will discuss this.

The referendum question can be found on the Kane County Clerks Website.
